LEAD PASTOR | Judson Church

Judson Church in Joliet, IL is seeking a Full-Time Lead Pastor of our congregation.


Judson Church is a non-denominational, independent Bible Church in Joliet, Illinois 60435 with Baptist roots. Joliet, IL is the third-largest city in Illinois. Judson Church is searching for an experienced and ordained Lead Pastor to lead our congregation. Judson Church is committed to the truth and integrity of scripture, evangelism at home and abroad, growth in knowledge and application of scripture, fellowship, and unity among a congregation of varied backgrounds and ages. Judson Church is a congregation lead church with elected officers, shepherds/elders, deacons, missions, and educational and discipleship committees. We have an average attendance of 200-250, active youth programs, a Wednesday night children’s program, Sunday School classes, women’s and men’s ministries, small groups, a food pantry twice per month, an online streaming service, and we support missionaries both domestic and abroad.

The staff is currently composed of an Associate/Discipleship Pastor, a Director of Children & Family, a Director of Preschool Ministries, and a Secretary.


The Lead Pastor is the spiritual leader and overseer of Judson Church. As such, he is to lead the congregation to accomplish our mission of making disciples in Joliet, Illinois. The Lead Pastor is to give biblical guidance, instruction, and encouragement so that the church can fulfill its purpose. At all times he has the responsibility to maintain a Godly influence in the church and in the community.

We desire a Lead Pastor who has a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is committed to scripture as it pertains to families, shepherding, discipleship, and evangelism.

It is recognized that many of his responsibilities may be delegated to others as he helps them to develop their giftedness and to grow as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lead Pastor’s job duties include, but are not limited to supporting and guiding:

  • a ministry of preaching and teaching the Word of God,
  • a ministry of administration,
  • a ministry of outreach and community leadership,
  • a ministry of stewardship, and 
  • a ministry of pastoral care. 


  1. Man of God.
  2. Minimum of 5 years experience in pastoral ministry and duties.
  3. Education: Must possess a minimum of a Master’s of Divinity (or equivalent) degree in Theological or Pastoral studies.
  4. Experience:
    • Must be a man of Godly character, exhibiting the Christian qualities outlined in 1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-3, Acts 6:4 and Acts 20:28-31
    • Must have experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
  5. Expertise
    • Ability to preach, effectively bringing the gospel to bear on the lives of the congregation, equipping the saints for ministry within their community.
    • Ability to formulate and cast a churchwide vision, inspiring and empowering the staff and congregation to bring the gospel to the lost and disciple those who are saved.
    • Ability to give Biblical counsel, as deemed appropriate, and to provide references with trusted professionals when a person's needs are beyond the pastor's abilities and training.
    • Basic organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.


To provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to the membership of Judson Church. The Lead Pastor will serve as the chief administrator of the congregation so that it might fulfill its mission to be Christ’s ambassador to the world, by reaching people and equipping them to serve. He shall maintain regular office hours and be reasonably available to the Church family on an “as needed” basis. Our desire is for the Lead Pastor to live within the community in which Judson Church serves.

The Lead Pastor is responsible for the following:

  1. Preaching and Teaching
    • To regularly preach and teach the Word of God.
    • To coordinate the worship service, in conjunction with the Shepherd Leadership Team and the worship ministry team.
    • To officiate at special services, i.e. weddings, funerals, etc.
    • To work with the music leader to provide music that glorifies the Lord and unites the congregation in the worship of the Lord Jesus.
  2. Administration
    • To oversee the administration and management of all areas of the church’s ministries, in consultation with the leadership team, committees, and staff.
    • To support and assist pastors, staff, and volunteers who have primary ministries of education and pastoral care.
    • To support, supervise, manage and evaluate, in conjunction with the Shepard Leadership Team, the staff of the church. He shall participate in the screening and hiring of non-pastoral staff and the calling of the pastoral staff. The Lead Pastor shall hold regular staff meetings to coordinate the ministries of the church and facilitate communication.
    • To promote, by example and leadership, small group studies.
  3. Outreach and Community Leadership
    • To implement ministries that reach out to the inactive attendees, unchurched and new residents of our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    • To direct the assimilation of new members into the life of the congregation, in conjunction with other ministries within the church.
    • To encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work and exercise their gifts to participate in the mission work of Christ.
    • To support and promote Christian education within our community.
  4. Stewardship
    • To promote, educate and advocate responsible Biblical stewardship in the congregation.
    • To assist the Shepard Leadership Team and finance committee with financial matters in the church.
  5. Pastoral Care
    • To provide pastoral care, in conjunction with others in the church, through visitation, counseling, and prayer.
    • To make appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly respond to crisis situations that arise in the church.


  1. Upon acceptance of a call to Judson Church, the Lead Pastor will become a member of the church and a voting member of the congregation. The call will be for an indefinite period of time and be defined by the parameters set forth in the by-laws.
  2. He shall be accountable to the Shepherd Leadership Team and congregation, for the mutually agreed-upon responsibilities of ministry.
    • He will report, both verbally and in writing, to the Shepherd Leadership Team at each regular meeting.
    • He will report to the congregation at all business meetings.
  3. He shall have primary oversight of all paid ministry staff, and mentor them to grow personally, professionally, spiritually, and in their ministry.
